When you travel, be it for business or pleasure, there are various types of accommodation to choose from. Everybody knows that there are many different hotels and hotel types. However, they are not your only option, even though they are the most commonly known type of “home away from home”!

Bed and Breakfasts are also known as B&Bs. They are cheaper in price than hotels. They may be a good option for couples and families who are trying to stay within a set budget. There are different types available depending on your needs and requirements. If you are looking for a safe place to sleep and you are going to be out most of the day then this could work for you.

  • Hotels

This type of accommodation option is best preferred by students and younger travellers. They have a variety of rooms and in many cases sharing does take place. They may seem very cheap but they are very convenient and are generally safe. The truth is that you will more than likely need to share a bathroom and if this does not seem comfortable for you, then this may not be your best bet.

  • Couchsurfing

If you are going to be staying in a country for a long period of time you can be hosted by someone who lives where you will be visiting. You will then need to be prepared to host them back. Many people question the safety of this method but if you do your checks and screening properly it can be ideal, granted you’re not visiting for business matters.

  • Motels

Motels are similar to hotels, however they are in a lower category and so are cheaper. They also only cater for the basics. It can be seen as a place to sleep and a place to eat.

  • Lodges

There are different types of lodges available. Usually they are small houses that can be rented even for longer periods.
